Mandeville is where the urban meets the natural. Founded in 1834 by the Marigny de Mandeville family of New Orleans, it developed early on as a lakeside summer resort for wealthy denizens of the Crescent City. This remains in evidence in the older quarters of the city, and in some of its key historic properties that are found on Lakeshore Drive. In the 1950s, Mandeville was connected to the south shore of Lake Pontchartrain via the Causeway, the longest bridge in the world.  To complement its well-established, wooded suburbs, Mandeville offers a full complement of upscale amenities. These include fine dining establishments, shops, day spas, and much more.

Fontainebleau State Park

The 2,800-acre park is located on the shore of Lake Pontchartrain. On a clear day, visitors can see the lake dotted with multi-colored sailboats of all sizes and types. The sandy beach also is a delight for sunbathers. The Tammany Trace is a wonderful route for cycling, hiking and in-line skating.

Mandeville Lakefront

The giant oaks along Mandeville's lakefront are iconic for this old and lovely town on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain.The paved path at the lakefront is a popular spot for locals to walk their dogs, jog and stroll. Along the path, arbors, swings and benches can be found to rest a while, and many beautiful historic homes and several restaurants front the lake.

Mandeville Trailhead

Here you’ll find public rest rooms, pavilions, an amphitheater, a tower and picnic facilities. A renovated train station now serves as an additional fun, complete with a splash fountain-sprinkler system that children enjoy.

Be Sure Not to Miss This

The fishing is excellent in Mandeville. Throw out a line from your perch on the seawall along Lakeshore Drive or check out the Mandeville Pier at Sunset Point for great fishing and a view of the sunset and the 24-mile-long Lake Pontchartrain Causeway Bridge. Shopping in Mandeville is top-notch with plenty of options for shoppers, from national retail chains with home décor and the latest fashions to boutique interior decorating shops. Mandeville’s restaurant scene is a good and varied one. Enjoy Louisiana seafood and other specialties with a water view at places like The Lakehouse or Rips on the Lake. Have a craft brew at The Barley Oak or an awesome breakfast at everyone’s happy place, Liz’s Where Y’at Diner.
